Sculptor Wook Jang Cheung dreams big. His sculptures of deer, camels, and elephants, which will be on display in his Las Vegas show at The Shops at Crystals, stand more than 10 feet tall in some cases. Wook’s elongated figures stand on fantastically statuesque legs that seem to have been inspired by an incredible, surrealistic dreamscape as much as the animals themselves.
Wook Jang Cheung has been on a long journey of his own. The Korean artist’s work has been exhibited in 13 solo shows and more than 100 group exhibitions during his career, with art displayed around the world from Japan to Italy to Korea to the United States.
The exhibit was curated by Dr. Laura Henkel of Sin City Gallery in Las Vegas and Shunmei Jin of JSM Art in China, and the work was brought to Las Vegas through the facilitation of Viva Tours.
The exhibit will be on display from September 15 to October 13 at The Shops at Crystals, 3720 S. Las Vegas Boulevard, Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to midnight.

“Statues stand, I want my work to be in motion, to connote the journey. These figures gaze out at an unseen destination that is beyond our horizon,” said Wook Jang Cheung.

“Cheung’s expansion of form is fluid and elegant. The stainless steel pieces represent strength and endurance.  ‘The Long Journey’ easily resonates in each of us, at any time and any given place, as we all yearn to reach a destination,” said Henkel.  “For the artist, the variety in forms ultimately represent life as a metaphor.  The road is a representative model.  Cheung opens up the road to life through his sculptures.  Just as the way journeys do to us, roads, too, can lead us to a model of life.”
